Have you ever thought about what your children feel when you drink?
Whilst we accept that alcohol is a part of our culture our children often have little or no choice in how we behave and the messages that we deliver to our children about alcohol.
For many children who are around their parents whilst they are drinking many feel anxious as they see the wide range of different behaviours that their parents display, from the mild tipsy (merry) to the stumbling intoxicated parent that has clearly had more than enough. The way in which children experience their parents is something that we should all give thought to.
At Early Break we have a multi award winning project called Holding Families – This project supports children to be able to have their voice heard so that they are able to tell their parents about their feelings and behaviours. Our programme offers support to both the children and the parents to look at the impact of their behavior and works in partnership to help them to identify positive changes that they want to make. Whilst not every family needs this level of intervention we are inviting you to join us in January as a part of our Dry January Campaign.
If you are thinking about taking a temporary break from alcohol why not support us locally? Every £ raised will go towards helping us work with those families where Alcohol and other substances affect the every day lives of children.
Holding families prides its self on keeping the child at the centre of the programme and working on each and every families strengths to make change.
