Holding Families is a multi-disciplinary service that aims to help children, parents and families with problems associated with significant parental substance misuse, where children and adults needs are dealt with and responded to at the same time.

Early Break is a unique service, offering a client centred approach to young people and their families who wish to address their substance related needs. Since 1994, we have gained a great deal of experience of working with vulnerable clients, being a consistently reflective service, believing this is the only way to develop and move forward so that we are always delivering the best service to our clients.
Who do we work with?
Holding Families supports parents and carers who have problems with drugs or alcohol. We refer to both as "parents" in our work. Parents may not live with their children but substance misuse may still have an negative impact on relationships in the family.
Adults who use substances may live in a household with children. This can be partners of a parent, relatives, friends and so on. It is important to be aware of what children are exposed to and how they feel about it. We can help with this.

We support families from "early intervention" to parents who have had their children placed in local authority care or with kinship carers (family or friends).
Holding Families is a multi-disciplinary service that aims to help children, parents and families with problems associated with significant parental substance misuse, where children and adults needs are dealt with and responded to at the same time.

In other words, we work with families where parents have a problem with drugs and alcohol. We work with each family member separately and as a family unit, for about five months. This also means that although Holding Families has its own programme and systems, we also use local, existing services to work with families to make changes to improve family life.
