Our Patron
Early Break's Patron is Oscar winning director Danny Boyle.
Danny has been the Patron of Early Break since 2009. Danny was born in Radcliffe on 20 October 1956 and he maintains strong links with his home town and is an avid follower of Bury FC. He went to St Mary’s Primary School and then to Thornleigh Salesian College in Bolton, where his love of English Literature and drama were cultivated.
Danny went on to University at Bangor in North Wales and whilst there, joined the Joint Stock Theatre Company working with them after he graduated. From there, he went to the Royal Court Theatre in 1982. After working in television on series like Morse and Mr Wroe’s Virgins, Danny directed his first film, Shallow Grave, in 1994 and the rest, as they say, is cinematic history.
Danny’s biggest hit film to date has been Slumdog Millionaire (2008), which won eight Oscars (including Best Director ) and many other awards. He followed that up with 127 Hours (2010): the true story of Aron Ralston, who, while cycling in the Utah desert, fell into a ravine and was trapped by his arm under a falling boulder. He amputated his arm with a blunt penknife when he realised that he couldn’t get free.
Danny is currently working hard on the opening ceremony for the London 2012 Olympics as well as making plans for his next film, Trance. The release date for which has not yet been decided.
